What is selumetinib?
Selumetinib is a MEK inhibitor that blocks cell signaling to slow tumor growth. It is usually provided through clinical trials with close monitoring.
Selumetinib at home
- Take twice daily 12 hours apart on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after food) with water.
- Do not take a missed dose or repeat the dose after vomiting.
- Store at room temperature and handle according to clinical trial instructions.
Possible side effects
- Nausea or vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Fatigue
- Skin rash or acne
- Dry skin or itching
- Swelling
- Headache
- Loss of appetite
- Eye problems
- Cough
- High blood pressure
- Anemia
- Not all patients experience these effects. Report all symptoms.
Tips for families
- Discuss all instructions with the doctor or pharmacist.
- Protect skin from sunlight with sunscreen and protective clothing.
- Use birth control during treatment and for the recommended period afterward (4 weeks for females, 4 months for males).
- Inform the care team if pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Follow hydration and supportive care instructions for GI side effects.
