What is promethazine topical gel?
Promethazine topical gel is a compounded antiemetic applied to the skin, commonly on the wrist, to deliver promethazine without swallowing or injections.
Possible side effects
- Drowsiness or excitement
- Skin sensitivity at the application site
- Dry mouth
- Blurred vision
- Serious reactions include hallucinations, dizziness, constipation, breathing problems, or profound drowsiness
- Not all patients experience these effects. Report all symptoms and seek emergency care for severe reactions.
Special precautions
- Discuss all instructions with the doctor or pharmacist.
- Apply only to healthy skin on the wrist; avoid irritated or radiated skin.
- Clean skin with water only and allow to dry before application.
- Wear gloves or use an applicator to avoid exposure.
- Massage the prescribed amount into the skin and allow to dry completely.
- Reapply every 4–6 hours as directed.
- Store at room temperature and keep syringes away from children.
- Wash skin immediately if accidental exposure occurs.
- Do not ingest the gel.
